Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi was not allowed to meet her and check if she is well. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested under section 151 of the Indian Penal Code while she was on her way to Uttar Pradesh to visit the families of farmers killed in Sunday’s violence.
It is alleged that she is being illegally held at a police compound in Sitapur about 50 kms from Lakhimpur Kheri. She has not been served an FIR or any legal notice so far. She has not even been produced before a Magistrate or any judicial officer nor has she been allowed to meet her legal counsel who was standing at the gate to meet her.
The detention of Priyanka has triggered furious protests from the Congress and other opposition leaders. Even her brother Rahul Gandhi was denied permission to meet her.
UP police have said that the case against Priyanka and 10 others relates to preventive detention due to apprehension of breach of peace.
