Forplay Presents RIP – A Solo Play Designed and Performed by Savita Rani

RIP is about the liberation of an Indian woman from the clasps of an oppressive patriarchal and social system that restricts her from being herself. It takes off with a soliloquy of a woman who recalls personal experiences and incidences. She speaks about her man’s decision to travel, and her desire to accompany him so that she can get a chance to satiate her personal hunger to see the world. Her act to convince her man begins then. RIP moves forward through the woman’s narration of what all she sees and feels during her travel, including the places she visited and the people she met. During the journey she questions culture and social system. The performance is narrative, based on a significant amount of interaction with the audience, moving further accordingly. It opens up new dimensions and possibilities in performance and its form.
