The research scholar Lois Sofia who was arrested and subsequently released on bail for raising slogans against the BJP has filed a petition in the Magistrates court seeking return of her passport that was seized by the police. The petition will come for hearing on Monday.Her advocate said that the police took her expired passport without issuing any receipt.
Henry Tiphagne the executive director of People’s Watch an NGO said that there were several irregularities in her arrest. She was neither given an arrest warrant nor a summons before being taken to the police station. He also criticised the Magistrate for not hearing her bail petition after putting her on remand at her residence. He also found that she was kept in the police station from 1.30 pm to 7 30 pm but records showed that she was brought for questioning only at 5 pm.
