The release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was scheduled to be released today the 5th of April has been put off indefinitely. The Election Commission said that it had received the responses of producers and BJP and they were considering the matter. Opposition parties including the Congress, the CPI (M)and the CPI had appealed to the Election Commission to delay the release of the biopic tilll the elections are over as that would influence the voters and would be a violation of the model code of conduct.
It is said that it was clearly a propaganda film and there are various precedents from the Election Commission prohibiting exhibition of films involving candidates.A petition has also been filed by the Congress party spokesperson Aman Panwar in the Supreme Court in this regard and would be heard on April 8.
