About 1000 women and students from the Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, gathered together on the campus and created a record for making 300 kolams. Each team had about 2 to 3 women.
An initiative of Tata Tea Chakra Gold, the record has entered the Asia Book of Records. Kolams were created on themes of flowers and seasons and were done with white kolam powder. Coloured powder was later added to the traditional designs. This was done in a time frame of just one hour. A space of 4×4 feet was allotted for each kolam and sufficient space was left in between each of the kolams. This activity was an extension of “Celebrating Tamizh Way of Life” campaign.
