Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who has been disqualified from the Lok Sabha after getting an order of conviction in a criminal defamation case has received a notice from the House committee to vacate his bungalow within 30 days. This development is believed to escalate the political fight between the BJP and the Congress and its allies.
His official residence-12 Tughlak Lane was allotted to him after he won his first Lok Sabha election from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in 2004. The House committee that has 11 members from different parties and chaired by BJP MP C R Patil issued the notice and stated that sending a notice of eviction was just a matter of formality as once an MP loses his membership, all privileges and perks have to be given up.
A Congress leader told the press that the party is confident that a higher court will stay the order of conviction and it would reinstate Rahul Gandhi as an MP.
