Queen Elizabeth, in a gesture of thanks for the successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition of her husband Prince Philip, sent a bouquet of spring flowers to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. It coincided with the UK’s day of reflection on the one year anniversary of going into lockdown due to the coronavirus.

There was a moment of silence held in memory of people who lost their life due to the virus in the past year. The Queen’s message says “As we look forward to a brighter future together, today we pause to reflect on the grief and loss that continues to be felt by many people and families, and pay tribute to the immeasurable service of those who have supported us all over the last year.”
The flowers in the bouquet were tulips, mini daffodils and ranunculus. It was considered to be a perfect way to thank the hospital staff for taking care of Prince Philip as well as to mark the grief of the families who lost their loved ones due to the virus.

Prince Philip was discharged from hospital after 28 days. He also shared a heartfelt message after his discharge to the staff who cared for him at both hospitals- King Edward VII Hospital and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. He also thanked everyone who sent him good wishes.
