Prince Philip has left hospital after his longest stay, said a source from Buckingham Palace. He has returned to Windsor Castle following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition. He thanked all the medical staff at the hospitals who looked after him and also all those who sent him good wishes.
A screen was erected and police cars blocked access for vehicles while the Duke was being discharged and driven away. Four officers on motorcycles joined about a dozen others at the entrance.
Prince Charles was thrilled that his father was back at home. He said that he spoke to his father several times and that he was in good spirits.
Prince Philip was in hospital for four weeks which has been his longest stay. He was originally admitted for an infection at King Edward VII hospital and later shifted to St. Bartholomews for a heart procedure which was successful. He was then taken back to the private hospital to recover.
The Duke will turn 100 in June this year and his birthday is likely to be marked in a small way. He retired from public duties in 2017 but carried out a rare engagement in July 2020, as he transferred one of his titles to his daughter-in-law, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
