President Droupadi Murmu and the Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar paid tributes to the Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi and also to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary on Sunday, October 2.
They visited Rajghat, the final resting place of Gandhi and also Vijay Ghat, the memorial of Shastri in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Rajghat and Vijay Ghat and paid floral tributes.
October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is observed globally as the International Day of Non-Violence. Many events were held in the country and worldwide to mark this occasion. Gandhi was fondly called ‘Bapu’ and he won freedom for India from the British rule by following principles of Ahimsa.
