President Murmu appointed two judges to the Supreme Court. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, the chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and senior lawyer Kalpathy Venkataraman Viswanathan appointed from the bar directly, were sworn in today by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
With this appointment, the Supreme Court has regained its full strength of 34 judges. The warrant of appointment was issued from the office of President Droupadi Murmu and the appointments were announced by the new Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Twitter.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended their appointment on May 16. The Collegium is headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and has 4 other judges namely Justices SK Kaul, KM Joseph, Ajay Rastogi and Sanjiv Khanna.
The swearing-in ceremony was streamed live on the Supreme Court’s website.
