President Droupadi Murmu conferred the country’s highest civilian honour on the 96 year old BJP stalwart and former deputy prime minister LK Advani at his residence in Delhi on Sunday. The location was chosen taking into consideration the ailing health of the veteran leader.
The family members of Advani were present at the ceremony. Also present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah. PM Modi sat next to Advani when he was being honoured with the Bharat Ratna.
LK Advani has been a doyen in Indian politics for over 7 decades. He always prioritized national interest and earned respect and admiration across party lines.
He was born in Pakistan in 1927 and migrated to India during the Partition in 1947.
