The Madras High Court has taken up suo moto a writ petition based on newspaper reports the case of a 23 year old pregnant woman who was transfused with HIV positive blood at a government hospital at Sattur. She had gone for treatment of anaemia.
The blood was donated by a youngster at the Sivakasi Government hospital in the same district. The bench comprising of Justice S. Vaidyanathan and Justice P.T.Asha agreed that the matter needed immediate attention of impleaded the Health Secretary, Director of Medical Services and the Joint Director of Health Services on Virudhunagar as respondents. The court ordered the Government Pleader to take notices on behalf of the respondents and to submit a reply by January 3rd.
