The case of hens at a farm belonging to a man in Malappuram, Kerala was solved by poultry experts at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. They have observed that the colour of the yolk was due to the feed given to the birds or due to a plant that the birds ate.
The experts visited the farm and took a few hens and eggs to study them. Dr. S. Sankaralingam, Assistant Professor at the Poultry Science Department said that the colour of the yolks was not due to any genetic aberration but due to the feed given to the hens. The hens were given feed at the University and they laid normal eggs with yellow yolks. They even provided poultry feed to the owner and asked him to feed the hens with it. Now the hens have started laying normal eggs.
