Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation stated that the country is fighting another war against Covid-19. He first expressed his sympathies to people who have lost a loved one due to the virus and acknowledged that India is in the midst of the second wave of Covid-19.
He stated that vaccines will be available for free in government hospitals and requested the migrant workers to remain where they are as it will be easier for them to get vaccines in the cities. He urged people to come forward and help those in need and requested states to impose lockdown as a last option.
According to him, we have all fought the first phase of the virus but now we are better off as we have a Covid specific medical infrastructure.He wanted people to be brave and not to lose hope as this is the way to win the battle. He further stated that work was going on to increase the number of beds in hospitals and that some Covid -19 dedicated hospitals are being built in some cities.
Earlier, PM had interacted with vaccine manufacturers from across the country through video conferencing and applauded them for their achievements. He urged them to scale up the production capacity so that vaccines would be available for all citizens.
The vaccination programme will be available to all adults from May 1.
