There have been nationwide protests held against the amended Citizenship Act and the National Register of Citizens. This has resulted in 23 deaths across Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Karnataka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has blamed the Opposition parties for misleading the people.
He called for peace and harmony and assured that the CAA and the NRC will not have any impact on the Muslims residing in India. He also asserted that the schemes of his government would never discriminate on the ground of religion. While addressing a rally at the Ramlila Maidan in the capital, he assured the citizens that these laws are not aimed against Indian Muslims or Indian citizens.
