Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Papua New Guinea. This visit holds significance as PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit this nation.
He was honoured with a fully adorned ceremonial welcome. The Indian national anthem was played as he arrived and there was a 19 gun salute and a guard of honour too.
James Marape is the 8th Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea and he assumed office in 2019. He touched PM Modi’s feet and sought his blessings while welcoming him.
PM Modi has visited the island for talks with Pacific leaders to counter the growing Chinese influence. He will co-host the Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation along with James Marape and other Pacific island leaders The talks will mainly focus on climate change and development.
