Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Harnaaz Sandhu for winning the Miss Universe crown. He also extended his best wishes to her in all her future endeavors.
Sandhu brought back the title to India after 21 long years. The 21 year old actor cum model beat contestants from 79 countries and bagged the crown.
Only two other Indians were crowned Miss Universe earlier. One is Sushmita Sen who won the title in 1994 and Lara Dutta in the year 2000.
Sandhu has been receiving congratulatory messages coming in from all quarters including politicians, the film industry and former title holders. Her win is seen as a boost for the beauty pageant industry.
