Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a fund to be created to fight against the threat of Covid-19. He wants the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation to create the fund. While addressing a video conference of the heads of member countries, he offered $10 million as India’s contribution to the fund.
He said that nothing is known about what shape the pandemic will take in the coming days, so a proposal to create a joint fund called the COVID-19 Emergency Fund could be created with voluntary contributions from all members. He said that it is clear that all members should work together in the spirit of collaboration. He suggested that the Foreign Secretary of India as well as the counterparts of other member countries meet and decide on creation of the fund.
