Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM – CARES FUND) to combat COVID-19. He has requested people from all walks of life to contribute to the fund as it would go a long way to ensure a healthier India. He requested citizens to leave no stone unturned to make India healthy and prosperous for the generations to come.
The funds would be used for any emergency or distress situations like the present situation and would provide relief to the affected. It would be a public charitable trust. The Prime Minister will be the Chairman of the Trust and the Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister would be the other members. Contributions to the fund would be exempted from Income Tax under Section 80 (G).
