Protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act held by the DMK and members of the alliance parties passed off peacefully. DMK President M.K. Stalin said that it was not a rally but a war which would continue till the BJP government withdraws the Act. Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, PCC President K S. Alagiri, DK Chief K. Veeramani, VCK Leader Thol Thirumavalavan and MDMK Chief Vaiko took part in the protests along with Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi who is the youth wing secretary.
Despite the huge numbers and the charged up atmosphere, the rally was peaceful. A large number of police were present and even drones were pressed into service by Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan following a directive from the Madras High Court.
