Girls from Thandalacheri village in Gummidipoondi were struggling to reach school on time due to insufficient and crowded buses. Panchayat President D. Anandraj made a promise during the elections that if elected, he would solve the problem. After he was elected, he kept up his word and arranged for 2 vans to ferry the girls free of cost.
He purchased two vans and appointed drivers and conductors for the vans. He didn’t want any student to drop out due to the lack of transport facilities. Currently there are about 100 girls who stydy in a government school which is 5 kms away and located in Kavarapettai. The village has a total of five buses plying through it but the services are very erratic. The buses often never even stop at the village.
