PAN card need not have father’s name

The Income Tax department in a draft notification has sought to amend Rule 114 of the Income Tax Rules 1962 and Permanent Account Number application forms viz Form 49A and Form 49 AA. Furnishing father’s name is currently mandatory for allotment of PAN.

The draft proposes to amend the IT rules so that furnishing of father’s name will not be mandatory for a person whose mother is a single parent.
