Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sunday the 22 March received overwhelming response. It was called to encourage social distancing among the public to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Tamilnadu had extended the curfew till 5 a.m this morning. All roads wore a deserted look. Some Amma Unavagam outlets were kept open. Fuel stations were kept open with minimal staff. At 5 p.m , many heeded the call of the Prime Minister to applaud doctors, nurses, hospital staff and health workers who are working on the front line to fight against the virus. They clapped and clanged on metal plates as a gesture of appreciation. All metro and suburban train services have been cancelled till the 31 of March. The State Transport Department has stopped inter state bus facilities but will operate minimal bus services within the State.
