Here we are in December, the time for letting routines relax a bit to make room for merry making. The combination of gorgeous weather, relatives and friends visiting from all over the world, and the end of the year looming over us results in lots of get togethers and going out for meals. Would you say that you learn about hot new eateries mainly though word of mouth? I certainly would, and that’s one aspect I always return to when I explain why I enjoy living here—you’ll learn a lot more through the advice of your friends rather than a Google search. So as your friend, let me tell you about five excellent standalone restaurants that are perfect for those long lingering lunches and decadent dinners that this season is all about!

Nolita
I’m so grateful to the friend who recommended this quiet, tucked away little Italian joint near the British Consulate which I would’ve never discovered on my own. They don’t attempt to reinvent the wheel with their pizza and pasta, keeping it authentic and light. Half of the pleasure in dining here is the setting, with tons of natural light and rustic decor in shades of blue. Speaking of blue, don’t miss the vintage blue doors in the courtyard—they are Instagram background gold! Unfortunately I never took a photo there because one bite of their tiramisu put me in a dream state. They clearly take pride in their ingredients because the mascarpone in the Tiramisu was unlike any I’ve tasted before in India. No travel plans this holiday season?
