A film Period. End of sentence, dealt with the stigma attached to menstruation and won an Oscar . Sadly, the women who were engaged in manufacturing of sanitary napkins did not even have toilet facility in their homes. Their father who is very proud of his daughters said that he could not build a toilet because he lacked monetary funds. The family used to manage with the makeshift toilet in the next street like all the other residents of the village. The discussion however took back seat as the villagers were celebrating the fame that the award had brought.
But this fame and happiness had come at a cost The women recalled the beginning of their journey when they faced so many hurdles and they were made fun of . Out of the 7 women only one had dropped out of school because the school neither had a toilet nor a female teacher. The manufacturing unit has given the women wings to fly but still life remains the same. However things are slowly beginning to change.
