Former Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s helicopter – A Bell 412 EP purchased in 2006 does not have any takers and is languishing in the Chennai Airport. The State Trading Corporation has been assigned the task of auctioning of the 11 seater chopper. The State Trading Corporation has floated tenders to dispose off the chopper.
A senior official has been entrusted with the supervision of the proposed sale and advertisements have been issued in all local newspapers and also in aviation journals. Any individual or institution is free to partake in the auction. It has been sparingly used and initially a base price of Rs 35 crores was fixed during the first round of auction. As it was not sold, this time no price has been quoted for this round of auction. It has flown less than 2500 flying hours and was last used in December 2018.
