V.K.Sasikala who is serving a prison term in Bangaluru’s Parappana Agrahara prison will not be released till she completes her term. There were a lot of speculation about her premature release but Director of Prisons,N.S. Megarish denied the rumours.
A function was held at the prison recently to distribute the premature release sanction papers of 140 lifers on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava, the State’s formation day on the First of November. These people who will be released belong to a different category and most of them were arrested on grounds of accused of murder and attempt to murder whereas Sasikala was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act. This was an economic offence and the concessions granted to criminals who could be reformed after taking into consideration their good conduct in prison would not be applicable to her. She was sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Supreme Court in February 2017 and will have to serve her sentence in full before being released.
