The Madras High Court has dismissed the bail plea of an accused arrested in connection with brutally stabbing a girl for failure to accept his marriage proposal. He was instead  directed to get counseling by a psychiatrist inside prison. Justice N. Anand Venkatesh  came down heavily on the accused and said that no man has a right to compel a woman to fall in love with him or to accept his marriage proposal. The judge said that women are not chattel and they have a mind of their own and cannot be forced to do things against their will.

In the instant case the accused had brutally stabbed the girl all over her body and she had survived only due to timely treatment given to her. The girl will never get back to normalcy as this gruesome incident will be etched in her memory forever. The judge said that if the girl suddenly refused to marry the accused, there were other ways to deal with the situation and stabbing the girl is not what one should resort to.
