No interim bail granted to TN Minister Senthil Balaji

The Madras High Court has rejected a plea for interim bail for Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V.Senthil Balaji. The court however allowed the Minister to be shifted to a private hospital for an emergency bypass surgery.

Justices J.Nisha Banu and D. Bharatha Chakravarthy passed the order in a habeas corpus petition filed by the Minister’s wife S.Megala. The court ruled that the Minister shall continue to be in judicial custody.
Senthil Balaji, a minister in the DMK government in Tamil Nadu was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a cash-for-job case on Wednesday. The charges related to his tenure as the transport minister during the AIADMK rule from 2011 to 2015.
The Court permitted a panel of doctors from the Omandurar government hospital to examine Senthil Balaji at Kauvery Hospital, rejected the plea for bail and posted the matter on June 22.
