A date for hanging the Nirbhaya convicts has been set for the fourth time. The date set is March 20th. However this time, the Supreme Court has decided to step in if they are not hanged on the date fixed. It may be recalled that the convicts have been trying all dilatory tactics to delay the date of execution by filing petition afternoon petition.
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice R. Bhanumathi said that it will consider the petition filed by the government to execute the convicts separately if the hanging does not take place on the due date. She also asked the lawyers for the convicts to come prepared as the court would not entertain any request for adjournment.
