MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS driver and Laureus Ambassador Nico Rosberg is hoping to continue his fine form and raise more money for Laureus through the #DriveforGood campaign at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Rosberg announced in April, ahead of the Laureus World Sports Awards in Shanghai, that from the 2015 Formula One Chinese Grand Prix onwards, for the remainder of the season, Mercedes-Benz would donate 100 euros for every racing kilometre that he led during the forthcoming 17 rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship.
Following victories at the last two Grands Prix in Mexico and Brazil, combined with the number of kilometers he has led throughout the season, Rosberg has raised over €130,000 to help improve the lives of young people around the world.
Rosberg, who given current form, could surpass the €150,000 mark at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, said:
“I am delighted that #DriveforGood has proved to be such a great success. The last few races have gone really well and I am very happy to be finishing the season so strongly. I really want to finish on a high note in Abu Dhabi and at the same time raise as much as I can for Laureus.
“Laureus is a cause that is very close to my heart and I am very proud to work as an Ambassador for the Foundation. It’s a source of great inspiration for me to see the fantastic work that the Foundation is doing for children round the world.”
From the slums of Nairobi to the ski slopes of Austria, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation uses a wide variety of sports to improve the lives of young people. Rosberg, an Ambassador for Laureus and a promoter of the power of sport, is a true believer in the message that sport has the power to change the world.
The 30-year-old has seen first-hand the work Laureus projects undertake around the world, spending time with youngsters from Laureus projects at his announcement as a Laureus Ambassador at Monza in 2013.
Along with Nico Rosberg, over 150 Laureus Ambassadors volunteer their time and efforts to inspire young people who need it most. Supported by 53 of the greatest living sporting legends in the Laureus Academy, Ambassadors spread the message that sport knows no boundaries and can be a force for change
