Women can walk in space just like they do on earth, thanks to a new generation of spacesuits. Protypes of the Orion Crew Survival Suit that will be worn on the journey to the lunar surface were unveiled at NASA’s Washington headquarters.
Kristine Davis, a space suit engineer wore a pressurized red, blue and white xEMU suit showing a vastly improved range of motion due to the bearing system on the waist, arms and legs. They are expandible and so one size can fit all. The first woman and the next man will go to the moon in 2024 and this time, they will be able to walk on the surface of the moon. This suit is very different from the suits of the past. Another innovation is the xEMU’s unlimited capacity to absorb carbon dioxide. It can absorb it and then remove the gas into the vacuum of space.
