Gita Gopinath a prominent Indian-American economist has been appointed as chief economist of the International Monetary Fund. She is one of the world’s outstanding economists with an exemplary track record and has vast International experience.
She will succeed Maurice Obstfeld who will retire at the end of this year. She is currently a professor of International Studies and Economics at the Harvard University. She grew up in India and did her graduation in the University of Delhi and Masters from both the Delhi School of Economics and University of Washington. She also has the distinction of being a co-editor of books on economics.
