A Nepali climber named Ngimi Tenji Sherpa who had climbed Mount Everest several times was found dead on the peak during this climbing season.
Ngimi, the 38 year old climber, was found dead on a trail close to an area called the ”football field”. His body has been brought down. There was no accident and the initial medical check shows high altitude sickness. He was carrying equipment and was found in a sitting position wearing his backpack. His death has come as a shock to many.
Nepal is home to eight of the world’s highest peaks and there are hundreds of people who scale the mountains when the temperature is warm and the winds are calm.
Nepal reopened its peaks to mountaineers last year after it was shut in 2020 due to the pandemic. The Nepal government has issued permits to 689 mountaineers for the season which includes 250 for Everest.
