The term Jallikattu is synonymous with the harvest festival. It is a sport that tests a man’s valour and strength. While men have to tame a bull, a new form of Jallikattu has been organised just for women. It is called Navina Jallikattu and the bull is replaced here with a hen. Women of all ages take part in the event.
It is organised every year by the Nandhavanam Ilaignar Narpani Mandram near Thiruchengode. A big circle is drawn and one of the legs of the hen is tied to the leg of a contestant with a rope. The contestants are then blindfolded and they have to catch the hen without stepping on the rope or stepping out of the circle. The winners are awarded with utensils and the contestants find this adventure sport thrilling and challenging.
