The three services viz the Army, the Navy and the Airforce have been inducting women into all the services. However the Navy is unable to place women immediately on board ships as they lack facilities. As on May 2019, women make up 6.7 percent of the Navy Officers as per information tabled in Parliament.
A tender has been issued to include facilities for women on board. This is the first tender to be issued which will incorporate facilities for women officers. The design changes will be part of all future warships procured by the Indian Navy. This year, the Defence Acquisition Council said that ships would be utilized to accord basic sea training to officer cadets including women.
