Nandan Nilekani, the co-founder of Infosys has donated a huge sum of Rs 315 crore to his alma mater, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The donation is to mark 50 years of his association with the college. He joined IIT in 1973 to study electrical engineering.
This donation is one of the largest donations made by an alumnus in India. Nilekani had donated Rs 85 crore to the institution earlier. Thus his total contribution is Rs 400 crore.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Nilekani and a Director and Professor of IIT, Professor Subhasis Chaudhari in Bengaluru today.
Nilekani made this donation out of gratitude for the institution as it had shaped him during his formative years and laid the foundation for his journey in life. The contribution is to foster world-class infrastructure and to stimulate research in emerging areas.
