The Madras High Court rejected the plea of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict Nalini for premature release. A Division Bench comprising of Justices K.K.Sasidharan and R.Subramanian rejected her plea for premature release under a 1994 State Government Scheme under Article 161 (powers of the Governor to grant pardon).
In February 2014,Nalini made a representation to the government seeking premature release under the 1994 scheme and also filed a petition in court. The matter was dismissed as a similar matter was pending before the Supreme Court. Against that order Nalini filed a petition before the Bench which also dismissed her petition stating that she had to wait for the outcome of the case pending before the Supreme Court.
