The #MeToo movement kicked up a storm in the country and many big names were accused of sexual harassment by several women and it came as a complete shocker when allegations against Rajkumar Hirani were made by a woman who works in his own team. His name was immediately removed from Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga posters and shockwaves went throughout the industry. While several people supported Rajkumar Hirani, the others were skeptical.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared a good rapport with Rajkumar Hirani all through these years and during the promotions of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, he was asked to comment about Rajkumar Hirani’s controversy and here’s what he said. ‘This stage here is for something else, which is extremely important for us, as important as what you’re talking about. This opportunity we should use to talk about this issue and that of course, when there is a right time, we will talk about it.”
In a statement, Hirani had rubbished the allegations saying, “I was completely shocked when these allegations were brought to my notice about two months back. I had suggested immediately that it is essential to take this matter to any committee or legal body. The complainant has chosen to go to the media instead. I want to very strongly state that this is a false malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation.” He had also mentioned how his relationship with Chopra was “crumbling” under pressure.
