Mumbai writer wins Global Prize

Annie Zaidi an Indian woman from Mumbai won the Nine Dots Prize awarded for creative thinking that tackles contemporary social issues for the year 2019. She won $100,000  as prize money. Her entry ‘Bread, Cement, Cactus.’ was  apiece which combined memoir  and reportage to explore concepts of home and belonging. The  prize  challenged entrants to answer the question” Is there no place like home? in a thousand words essay.

The winner will be supported to develop their work into a full length book which will be published by the Cambridge University Press. It  also gives the recipient an opportunity to spend a term at the Centre for Research in Arts,  Social Sciences and Humanities at the Cambridge University.  The 40 year old Annie who is  thrilled to bits has published both fiction and nonfiction work. The nine dots prize was founded by Kadas  Prize Foundation which is a  U.K. registered Charity Organisation.
