Maria Cummins, mother of Australia Test cricket captain Pat Cummins passed away after battling a prolonged illness. This news was confirmed by Cricket Australia through a tweet just before the start of day 2 of the ongoing fourth test match between India and Australia in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. All the Australia players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect.


Pat Cummins had flown to Australia to be with his ailing mother following the conclusion of the second Test in Delhi last month. He thanked Cricket Australia and his teammates for their support and understanding.
Pat Cummins is the 47th captain of the Australian Test team. He was named captain after the resignation of veteran wicketkeeper-batter Tim Paine. He is the first fast bowler to become a full-time Australian Test captain.
