In a very unique event, a 53 year old woman and her 27 year old daughter got married together at a mass wedding ceremony held under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojna in Gorakhpur. The woman Beli Devi lost her husband Harihar 25 years ago. She had 4 children- two sons and two daughters. The three elder children are all married and so she decided to marry her own brother-in-law Jagdish on the same day when her youngest daughter got married. It was her brother- in – law who took care of the family after Beli Devi lost her husband.
The mass wedding had 63 couples including a Muslim couple who tied the knot. Jagdish is a farmer and did not marry after his brother passed away as he took care of his brother’s family after his demise. The marriage of Jagdish and Beli Devi has made the whole family happy as now they will look after each other. Senior district officials were present at the mass wedding event.
