A 16 year old girl from Villupuram hung herself at her home after failure to clear the Neet exam. Two other girls from Tamilnadu also ended their lives for the same reason. A total of three girls committed suicide within two days in the State after the Neet results were declared. These deaths are totally avoidable and could have been avoided by a combined effort by parents, families, educational institutions, the government and society.
It is time that expert counsellors are made to deal with depression among young people. M. Monisha, S.Ritushree and N. Vaishiya are from Villupuram,Tiruppur and Pattukottai respectively. It may be recalled that in 2017 Anita from Ariyalur district committed suicide for the same reason. This led to widespread demands from Opposition parties to the Centre to exempt TamilNadu from Neet. A solution needs to be found to avoid further deaths at the earliest.
