A report on the State of Women Entrepreneurship in India by Sheatwork showed that the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu had the highest number of women entrepreneurs in India and most of them were in the small and medium sized businesses. This trend is attributed to the higher literary rate in these states.
The maximum number of women entrepreneurs were in the education sector followed by financial services, insurance, forestry etc.The focus of schemes is primarily on financial aid followed by training and skill building. However almost 80% of women opt to self- finance their businesses and hardly opt for the various government schemes that provided them with financial aid. The founder of Sheatwork.com, Ruby Sinha said that their objective was to encourage more women to start their own ventures and how the existing schemes can be best utilised for their benefit.
