Amidst recent attacks on doctors, IMA appeals to Prime Minister to intervene
The pandemic has already taken the lives of close to 800 health workers mostly doctors. To make matters worse, there have been instances where certain anti social elements have harassed health workers and physically attacked them. The Indian Medical association has written a letter to Narendra Modi to intervene and stop such attacks. They have also requested action to be taken against people who spread false messages about the Vaccination campaign. Mollywood actors such as Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Nivin Pauly, Prithviraj and Joju George came out in support of doctors as they took to social media to share the poster condemning attack on doctors. Prithviraj Sukumaran wrote, “They are our soldiers. And we have a war to win! Stop attack on doctors.”
Many protests have been organised against violence on health workers including doctors and nurses . The number of cases of assault have been rising during the pandemic, which is adding to the stress and trauma experienced by health workers. IMA has requested that hospitals be declared as a protected zone.
