The Opposition parties are dead against unveiling of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s portrait in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. However the BJP supported the move saying that Jayalalithaa deserved the honour as she had been CM for 6 terms.
The DMK condemned the move and even threatened to boycott the event marking the unveiling of the portrait. Stalin said that the speaker has no right or power to unveil the portrait of a person convicted in a corruption case.The DMK’s ally the Congress welcomed the decision of the government and whole heartedly supported the unveiling of the portrait.
