Met Gala – Super Bowl of fashion was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Bengaluru. It was designed to explore the best of exaggerated, fun, capital-F fashions, Show off the Love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration! But, it was not just glam oozing out that was different. It was a Red Carpet going green to align itself to a Social Cause: Movement from Fast to sustainable Slow Fashion.
Minnku Buttar, Bangalore Fashion chairperson of ALL Ladies League, (with 100,000 members worldwide), who curated this event said, “If humans want to survive and leave an earth suitable for our next generations, the only eco-friendly solution is to consume less. As designers and creators, we need to find a positive de-growth. Delve a few notches deeper and take sustainability and waste management seriously. That is why my new fashion line, will be utilising only Vegan fabrics created out of Rose bush, Aloe Vera, Fallen banana leaves and orange peel.”
In Fast Fashion clothes move quickly from catwalks to giant retailers, after which with marketing tools and ads, they influence people to spend more on the cheaper garments produced by them by mindlessly imitating trends and styles, and then consumers discard them just as fast to the landfills, because the quality is not the best and its easy on the conscience. What we are not aware of is that this cheap production in third world countries translates Human rights issues when Labour is exploited and forced to work in miserable working conditions. Slow Fashion is a Lifestyle shift. Going Green. By Re-purposing, Re-suing, Re-styling our existing wardrobes, evaluating source of production, decrease consumption by mindful purchase – leading to an Ethical, Mindful and Heartful Living! To drive this message to the stylish crowd, who had also gone out of the way to wear repurposed clothes, Minnku Buttar and Khusboo Nagpal, invited 17 Designers to be part of the MET GALA and create flamboyant ensembles with Pre-acquisitions of the Muses, encouraging Re-use, Re-cycle, Re-purpose by Re-styling available wardrobes. The upcoming Calendar 2020, will be sold worldwide and will carry messages of their Pledges to Move from Fast fashion to Sustainable Slow fashion.
