A mother Vandana Katoch had posted a congratulatory message to her son who secured 60 percent marks in the Class X board exams on Facebook. She posted that she was proud of his achievement as he had pushed himself to get those marks. She conveyed to him that marks doesn’t maketh a man. The post went viral and within 24 hours there were more than 2000 shares and 724 comments.
While most people appreciated her stand, there were some who threw brickbats at her saying that it was not good parenting. Vandana feels that the education system needs a change and for this the Boards need to work with a broad base of parents to bring about change in the system. Meanwhile her son has subjects he enjoys for Class XI viz Sociology, Psychology, Political Science and History.
