Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud summoned the Attorney General R. Venkatramani and the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to convey that the apex court is disturbed by the visuals of a woman being paraded naked and sexually assaulted in Manipur. The CJI gave time to the Central government as well as the Manipur government to take steps to punish the offenders.
The Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of the disturbing video as it is a gross violation of the constitutional and human rights.The court stressed that it wanted immediate action in the matter and directed both the Centre and the Manipur government to take immediate steps and also inform the court on what action has been taken.
The suo motu case has been posted for hearing on July 28.
