Man who tried to enter CM Mamata Banerjee’s house in Kolkata, arrested

A man identified as Sheikh Noor Alam tried to enter West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Harish Chatterjee Street, Kolkata has been arrested by the police. One firearm, a knife, some contraband substances and several ID cards of different agencies have been recovered from him. He travelled in a black car with a police sticker on it. He was wearing a black coat and a tie. Police have seized the car which he was driving.

The man is being questioned at a local police station in Kalighat by officers of the Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force (STF) Special Branch and a case has been registered against him under the sections of criminal conspiracy and impersonation of a public servant under the IPC and also under the Arms Act. This incident took place just hours before Mamata Banerjee left her residence to reach the Martyr’s Day rally venue in the central part of Kolkata.
The Chief Minister is a Z -category protectee and therefore, this is said to be a serious issue.
